Nurturing support for bereaved parents and after a pregnancy loss, or the death of a baby or child of any age. Working together towards healing.
Thanks to the inspiration of Nottingham couple Carly Williams and Martin Sommerville, and the hard work of Nottingham Hospitals Charity fundraisers and volunteers, parents who suffer the loss of a pregnancy , baby or child can now access a special support centre at Nottingham’s City Hospital.
What is Zephyr’s?
“When our first child was stillborn at Nottingham City Hospital, midwives and staff surrounded us with care and compassion. But when we needed continued support, we had to go back to the very last place we wanted to be- the maternity ward- where every sight and sound echoed painful memories.’
‘So we set up Zephyr’s in our son’s name, to create a better place for families and staff to come together within safe surroundings; to find strength, feel held through hard times, to talk openly about our children and grief, and be in the company of others who understand’- Carly Williams
An interim centre is now open. This space, set up in former doctor’s accommodation at the Derwent Flats on Embley Road, will give a more immediate alternative to clinical settings- an essential step towards the long term aim of a purpose-built centre.
What can you do to help?
With love at its heart – the new space offers a contrast to the clinical norm; peer support, connection, counselling, exercise, therapeutic creative activities, gardening, training and talking- an antidote to the overwhelming isolation sadness after loss.
Carly and Martin invite you to share in their dream to build a beautiful purpose built centre, made of natural materials, on Nottingham City Hospital grounds.
Please join this project and lend your support if you can; whether you’d like to donate, raise money, share your skills or stories, or tell your friends- spread the word and help us to help others.
