Everyone gets set for The Longhorn 2017!

On the 23rd April running enthusiasts will be taking part in the Longhorn. There’s something for everyone as this year there’s a choice of a 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon and ultra-marathon race and we are delighted to be working with SBR Events as their charity partner to make this the best one yet!

Nottingham Hospitals Charity has 25 runners fundraising this year, who have so far raised over £4,300 with donations still pouring in. Many individuals and families are taking part, including Ruby and Rob Jones whose son, Albert received lifesaving care in the Neon
atal Unit at Nottingham Hospitals after he was born at only 32 weeks old.

Ruby Jones explained why she and husband Rob are going to be running their hearts out on Sunday: “The care Albert received in the unit was second to none. No expense was spared to ensure that he came home a healthy baby. We were given a room to stay in on the unit so that we could be with him 24/7. I (Ruby) was able to use equipment that we could never have afforded to make sure he was being fed. And even after we got home staff visited us to make sure he was gaining weight and gave us vital CPR training.
We would like to give back to those who gave Albert the best start in life and helped make him the crazy boy he is today!”

Charity fundraising Events like the Longhorn allow people to raise money as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for the help they’ve received. Volunteers are equally important in helping make these things happen! Volunteers can get involved in so many different ways, from helping get people prepared for the race, to cheering them across the finish line with a bottle of water. If you have any spare time WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS at the Longhorn and the many events coming up where your help would be greatly appreciated including: the Asda 10k, Thoresby 10k, and the Inflatable 5K. Senior community fundraiser Naomi Walters said: “We are very grateful to be able to have so many runners supporting Nottingham Hospitals at the Longhorn. It’s also fantastic to partner with SBR Events each year as it allows fundraisers to excel as they are set to raise more than ever before.”
