From couch to London Marathon for charity in one year!

Nottingham Hospitals staff member Justin Heath is taking on the challenge of a lifetime on 24th April this year as he takes part in the London Marathon – just one year after he started running from scratch!

Justin who works as a Costings Assistant with the Finance team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, is raising money for Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s Ear Nose and Throat Appeal. The appeal is raising money to create a beautiful and serene courtyard garden which will benefit thousands of patients who visit the Ear Nose and Throat Centre every year.

Justin, who spent some time in the Ear Nose and Throat Centre as a child, says ““On the 30th October 2015 I received an email to enter a ballot to run the LM for the NUH Charity, still flying high from completing my first ever half marathon in September (Robin Hood) before I knew what had happened I had clicked send on the email which put my name into the ballot.

“The charity was happy for me to be involved in selecting the appeal that the money I raise will contribute too.  I decided on a ‘Head and Neck appeal’ they are currently trying to raise £50K to improve the waiting area for cancer patients.  I am very passionate about this appeal as I can relate to it on a personal level and I truly believe this is going to make a massive different to the patients that receive life changing information.”

Justin has only been running for just over a year after starting running 5k in April 2015. He has put incredible effort into his running and completed the Robin Hood Half Marathon in September 2015. The London Marathon is his biggest challenge yet!

Senior Community Fundraiser, Naomi Walters says: “We are so proud of Justin for his tremendous hard work over the past year and extremely grateful for the brilliant fundraising he is doing for patients who are treated in our ENT department. The money he has raised will make a huge difference to patients at our ENT department who may be going through an incredibly difficult time”.
