Top tips for fundraising as a member of staff!

Rachel, play specialist at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, shares her top tips for making your fundraising a success.
About me
I work with children on the Burns and Plastics Unit, and seeing the impact that funding from Nottingham Hospitals Charity has on benefiting our young patients inspired me to fundraise to give back.
I’m especially passionate about raising money to send children to Burns Camps. These camps help young patients connect, share experiences, and build self-esteem. Camp costs are covered by the Family Burns Club but funding was needed to cover transport costs, which is where Nottingham Hospitals Charity stepped in to help.
If you’d like to give back to your area, here are my top fundraising tips!
- Sign up for a 20 for 20 fundraising pack to receive a fundraising pack of goodies and regular emails from the team to support you.
- Raffles and “Name the Teddy” Competitions: Fun, simple, and great for all ages.
- Sponsored Activities: Runs, abseiling, or even a skydive! I recently did the Big QMC Abseil—it pushed me out of my comfort zone but was great fun! Nottingham Hospitals Charity hold loads of events each year including the Dragon Boat Race, Golf Day and the Robin Hood Half & Mini Marathon 2026.
I also held a bake sale at the hospital, here are my tips to make the most of your sale:
- Pick a busy location: Set up in a high-traffic area for maximum impact.
- Make it inviting: A well-decorated stall with beautifully arranged treats will catch people’s attention.
- Spread the word early: Give plenty of notice, especially if it’s cash-only, so everyone is ready to support.
- Offer variety: Include different types of cakes and cookies—even healthier options—to appeal to more people.
- Promote why you’re fundraising: Make sure people know where their money is going. In our case, we’re raising funds to help with transport for children to attend Burns Camps!
Whatever you choose, fundraising is a fantastic way to make a difference, and it certainly has for the children and families we support. Every effort counts!
