Having an x-ray or ultrasound can cause a lot of anxiety for Nottingham Children’s Hospital’s youngest patients. Thanks to your donations we’ve been able to create a brighter, more child-friendly experience for young children and their families.
Just down the hallway from Adult X-ray, patients are welcomed into the brand new Paediatric Radiology Department which helps young patients feel more comfortable when waiting for an x-ray. The new artwork, funded by Nottingham Hospitals Charity, varies from room to room, featuring a space theme and a jungle theme to help distract patients from their procedure and minimise the amount of time they are under the machines.
Previously the adult and children’s radiology departments shared a space, but the two departments have now separated to help create a more child-friendly environment.
From the moment patients step on to the unit, they are immersed in the bright and engaging artwork which helps alleviate anxiety and stress during this scary time. One parent even commented on how much easier it is for their child to undergo x-rays since the regeneration.
Angela Staley, Lead Paediatric Radiographer spoke fondly about the project "We are very grateful to the charity for funding the wall murals in the waiting areas, and also the privacy screens. This has made such a difference to our paediatric patients and families who are waiting for exams, easing their anxiety and providing an environment that is calming, friendly and inviting. This in turn allows successful examinations, providing diagnostic studies, with very small radiation doses.
They also funded the re-development of x-ray Robin, so we can further promote the charity in the future.
We have worked with the charity closely over the years, and recognise all the hard work they do to enable the funding of such additions that make a big impact for the paediatric patients in Nottingham and the surrounding East Midlands."
The opening of the new Paediatric Radiology Department is all thanks to your kindness and generosity. If you can help, please donate below.
