A wonderful way to say thank you
Remembering Nottingham Hospitals Charity with a gift in your Will is a wonderful way to say ‘thank you’ for the care that you, or a loved one, have received. What’s more, a gift to Nottingham Hospitals Charity will continue to enhance the amazing care that takes place in our hospitals every day.

A third of our income comes from gifts in Wills
We know that your loved ones come first.
But after you’ve taken care of your family and friends, a gift to our hospitals – even just 1% of what’s left – will make the world of difference to our work.
A third of our income comes from gifts in Wills, a legacy from our donors which we are so grateful for.
Our promise to you
We know that writing a Will can sometimes be difficult and that complications can arise. We want to ensure that leaving a gift to Nottingham Hospitals Charity is as easy and stress-free as possible. We promise:
- We absolutely recognise that those closest to you come first in your Will
- We will never ask you the size or type of legacy if you decide to support our work this way
- We will never ask you to tell us your intentions, but if you do tell us your intentions, we will then able to say thank you – which is nice to do!
- We fully understand that personal circumstances change and there might be a time when you must take Nottingham Hospitals Charity out of your Will.
- We promise to use your gift wisely for the benefit of future generations.
Elizabeth Chant chose to leave an incredible legacy of £20,000 to our Haematology Day Case Unit. This was following the care she and her family received on the unit. Elizabeth’s brother, Roland, explains why:
“The key thing for Liz throughout the last months was that the Haematology Day Case Unit became her family. When she was being given endless blood transfusions, she relied totally on the staff there – they never let her down. They were able to help her through the ever deepening troughs with robust good humour and genuine laughs! I cannot speak highly enough of their care”.
Alan Thomas recently left a wonderful legacy of £200 to Hayward House – our palliative care centre. Alan had been a patient at Nottingham City Hospital but decided to leave a gift in his Will to Hayward House following the care received by members of his family a few years ago. Alan’s wife, Josephine, says
“Alan’s brother and my sister were both looked after at Hayward House a few years ago. The care and love they received from the staff at Hayward House was wonderful and something we never forgot. So both Alan and I decided that we would leave a legacy in our Will to help the staff at Hayward House continue their fantastic work”.
Information for Solicitors and Will-writers
Any gift left in a Will, no matter how large or small, is important to Nottingham Hospitals Charity. We always recommend to our supporters that a Will is drawn up by a legal professional. This is so that they receive expert advice and their requests are protected and cannot be altered by others.
We also advise that, where possible, the next of kin and family members are informed of our supporters’ decision to leave a gift in their Will to Nottingham Hospitals Charity.
When leaving a gift in a Will to Nottingham Hospitals Charity, it helps if the bequest is not too specific. This is because the medical equipment the Nottingham University Hospital Trust use, and the type of treatment provided, is constantly changing.
We would be more than happy to discuss with you the wording of a Will. We can also provide information about the work funded by Nottingham Hospitals Charity.
Whether you need help writing a new Will, or wish to add a gift to an existing Will, we can help.
