Celebrating Our Charity Champions and Volunteers at the NUH People First Awards

Posted on: 18 Nov 2024

We were delighted to attend this year’s NUH People First Awards, held at Colwick Hall on Thursday, 14th November. As proud sponsors of the Charity Champion Award, we celebrated the dedication of hospital staff who go above and beyond through volunteering, fundraising, and creative use of charity funds to enhance their departments and improve patient care.

After a challenging judging process, the Hayward House Team was named Charity Champion of the Year. This award recognised their tireless efforts in supporting Nottingham Hospitals Charity and raising vital funds for the Hayward House Appeal. Through initiatives such as coffee mornings, fairs, and collection boxes, the team has been instrumental in securing the funds needed for projects like the re-opening of the garden, building improvements, and creating a more welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff in their specialist palliative care unit.

The award was presented by Samantha Cousens, our Director of Fundraising and Communications, who praised the team’s incredible contributions who said:

"The Hayward House Team’s commitment to fundraising and their support for Nottingham Hospitals Charity have made a meaningful difference to patient care and wellbeing.

“We see their dedication first-hand and how their passion inspires others to join them, reflecting the compassion and sense of community that are central to our work. We’re proud to recognise them as our Charity Champions of the Year."

It wasn’t just our Charity Champions in the spotlight; we were also thrilled to see one of our dedicated volunteers, Jackie, shortlisted for the Volunteer of the Year Award. This award highlights individuals who selflessly give their time to support staff, patients, and visitors, creating a positive and lasting impact within our hospitals.

Charity Hub Volunteer Jackie was also nominated for an award

Jackie, who was nominated by Deborah Morton, our Volunteer Development Manager, has been an invaluable part of the Nottingham Hospitals Charity team since 2023. Deborah said:

“Jackie has been an invaluable asset to Nottingham Hospitals Charity, dedicating her time and energy to our Charity Hub since 2023. Her passion and commitment were essential during the Hub’s closure and refurbishment, and she has been a driving force behind its successful reopening. Jackie is always there to support others and has trained and mentored fellow volunteers, quickly becoming their go-to person.”

With over 900 nominations received for this year’s People First Awards, being shortlisted is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the outstanding contributions of our volunteers and staff.

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners!
