Due to popular demand, Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s Dragon Boat Race is back for another two-day event in 2023!
Gather together your family, friends or colleagues and get paddling in aid of your chosen area of Nottingham’s NHS hospitals. Bring along your team of supporters for a day of family fun by the River Trent!
Our popular event was held over two days for the first time in July 2022, raising more than £23,000 for Nottingham’s hospitals. Teams of hospital staff, corporate supporters and community groups all joined together for two days of fun in the sun.
Liz Roper, who was in the Dietetics and Nutrition boat, has taken part in the Dragon Boat Race with colleagues for several years in a row. The team goes all out every year by making their own food-themed fancy dress costumes – this year’s theme was afternoon tea, and the team won the ‘Best Dressed Award’ for their fantastic efforts.
Liz said: “This was our third year of taking part in the Dragon Boat event and we just have so much fun! The organisation of the whole event is amazing, right from the beginning when choosing the team name, but also the team building that takes place while raising funds.
“The whole of our department get involved – even if we can’t persuade them to take to the water, they are happy to support and get involved in other ways. We now have people saying they want to put their name down for next year and hope it’s just as much fun.
“Anyone that is contemplating entering – our message is just do it! A fun way to raise funds, make new friends, get to know your work colleagues even better, and of course enjoy a picnic in the sunshine. Huge thanks to the Charity and Dragon Boat team for an amazing day!
The Dragon Boat Race is open to anyone who can gather together a team of 17 friends, family members or colleagues.
Places are filling quickly, so claim your spot today for Saturday 1st or Sunday 2nd July 2023. We’ll see you there!
