Exciting new playroom brings smiles to young patients

A brand-new playroom has opened near Ward E37 at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, offering a safe haven for young patients to play away from the bustle of their wards. Partly funded by your generous donations, this project offers children a chance to step away from their beds and ward environments and rediscover the joy of being a child.

What makes this playroom truly special is its location, away from the wards, allowing patients to play safely without the noise and hustle of hospital life.

The room features sensory toys and activities, including an infinity tunnel, designed to engage children with a range of conditions. These activities also support their mental and physical mobility.

The space was officially opened by current patients, including Francesca Pykett, who lives with a rare genetic disorder. She was among the first children to enjoy a non-medical session there with Nottingham Children’s Hospital’s play specialists.

Jamie-Lee Phillips, Play Specialist at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, speaks proudly about this new room and the equipment inside “The play service would like to say a huge thank you to the charity for funding this amazing sensory room. This is going to make a huge impact for our patients care allowing them time and space away from the wards to have some therapeutic intervention tailored to their own individual needs whether that be a sensory play session, rehabilitation or some preparation, distraction  and post procedural play. The sensory room will be enjoyed by all, we are all super excited to get our patients in for some lovely play sessions.”

A huge thank you to all our supporters for helping us provide this unique and truly special room for Nottingham’s youngest patients.
