How Grant a Christmas Wish is Transforming Hospital Stays for Children.

Grant a Christmas Wish has helped bring smiles to many of our youngest patients at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters. The donations have provided a wide variety of toys, games, experiences and sensory equipment, making hospital stays a little brighter, less intimidating, and more engaging.

One of the areas that has really benefitted from Grant a Christmas Wish is Ward D33, which looks after patients who need long-term care and treatment. Thanks to your support, we've been able to provide toys and equipment that are crucial in helping these children feel more at ease during their hospital stay.

For children with sensory needs, the toys are more than just distractions, they play a vital role in reducing anxiety and turning a challenging hospital environment into a more comforting and playful space. On Ward D33, where many children require extended stays and significant care, the impact has been significant.

Neve Kennedy, Ward Staff Nurse on D33 told us “Having toys for the children and families on D33 is such a huge part of their stay on the ward. D33 often has patients that are long term and require a lot of intervention and stimulation.

“We have patients with a range of complexities, some who are unable to play with toys but benefit from sensory equipment such as lights and noises. Not only do the toys provide welcome distraction, but they also help their development during their long stays and bring a smile to their faces. Being able to buy a variety of toys thanks to the Nottingham Hospitals Charity has made a big difference to our ward. D33 as a team are very grateful for this grant, it won’t just benefit the children now but also for our future patients to come.’’

Spending time in the hospital can be overwhelming for any child but for those with sensory needs, it can heighten already existent anxieties and make the hospital feel like a horrible place to be. These new toys will help children feel more at home during this scary time.

None of this would have been possible without the kindness of our supporters. You can help fund projects like this by donating below.
